Global Climate Community

Global Climate Community

More than a decade ago, an activist group called Action for a Global Climate Community was formed under the leadership of Chris Layton, who had a long career in the European Commission and was a strong advocate for climate action.

See the report of their panel discussion in 2006 here [insert link to panel discussion document]. Its strategy was rather similar to ours, albeit in a different problem area, namely: start with a ‘coalition of the willing’ to drive further action to cut emissions by means of a new Treaty, and look for more members to jump on board later. The proposed initial members were Britain, France, Germany, India and Brazil (even at that stage, it was recognized that the US would be a laggard on this issue). Unfortunately the Action group was wound up in 2013. Given the new global focus on the climate change problem, might it be time to try and revive this initiative?
